NAACP REPRESENTING OLATHE, OVERLAND PARK AND LEAWOOD HANDS OUT MLK AWARDS

The NAACP representing Olathe, Overland Park and Leawood handed out several awards Jan. 15 during the 14th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy and Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Overland Park Marriot Hotel
Ed Eilert, chairman of the Johnson County Commission, received the Legacy Award, while awards also were handed out for Diversity Avdocate in Community Involvement (Marge Vogt, Olathe city councilwoman), Media and Journalism (Scott Parks, KMBZ radio), Law Enforcement (Maj. Dale Reed, Johnson County Sheriff personnel, training and emergency response team commander), and Sports (Dave Smith, president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City).
U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach were among the speakers at the event, which also was attended by Eilert, Wyandotte District Attorney Mark Dupree, Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe, Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer, Raytown Mayor Mike McDonough, Lenexa Mayor Michael Boehm, Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn, and Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross among others.
